Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.
Jeremiah 11- "God's Covenant Is Ignored"
We see in v. 1: The Lord brought the Word to Jeremiah, the same Word that was once only with the prophets, is now with us.
See v. 3- "Heeding the Words of the covenant, not just hearing those words, but living the words of the covenant by action, by example: "Cursed is the one who does not hear the words of the covenant, which I commanded to the ancestors."
See v. 4- The Lord wants them to His people, and Him their God.
In v. 5- Jeremiah shows obedience, by Saying "SO BE IT"- read from The Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture. We see going into v. 8 and beyond the people do not obey.
v. 13- "Wherefore to Jeremiah also He said, 'Pray not for this people, for I will not hear thee', not as wishing to stop his prayer (for He earnestly longs for our salvation), but to terrify them: and this the prophet also seeing did not cease praying" (St. John Chrysostom).
See v. 18- the Prophet Jeremiah, as well as elsewhere, serves as a foreshadowing of Christ, the truly "INNOCENT LAMB" who was "SACRIFICED" by those who planned to exterminate His entire legacy.
The prophet in v. 20 for me and v. 21 depending on your version if your following along, the prophet Jeremiah is rejected in "ANATHOTH"- his hometown, Christ said in (Luke 4:24) "no prophet is accepted in his hometown."
Jeremiah 12- "Jeremiah Pleads His Case"
"Why do the wicked prosper? Here Jeremiah takes up a theme that is found in Job 12:5-6- will be read from my study Bible with explanation provided in teaching video.
See v. 5: "IF WE GROW WEARY" in the trials of ordinary life, how can we expect to handle swift "HORSES" or "FLOODS?"- the answer is Christ. In vv. 7-8- We see "REJECTION"- the suffering of the incarnate God: "Look with awe then at the Lord who was judged. He suffered Himself to be led and carried by soldiers. Pilate sat in judgment, and He who sits on the right hand of the Father, stood and was judged" (Cyril of Jerusalem). Read from the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture.
We see in vv. 14-16: Jeremiah changes his audience to the Gentiles, he promised them inclusion among the people of God should they learn to worship Him. This was not fully encountered until the first coming of Christ.
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
