The Beast from the Sea
13 Then [a]I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having [b]seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.
Daniel 8- STUDY & NOTES
Daniel's vision happened around 551 BC. THE RAM (v. 3) is Darius and also the time and rule of the MEDES AND PERSIANS (v. 20), it ended with the death of Belshazzar in 538 BC. THE MALE GOAT- is THE GREEKS (v. 21) this lasted up until the time of the Romans around 164 BC. Alexander the Great was broken (v. 8), he was only 33 years old- his four generals divided up the empire.
Ptolemy I- Egypt
Seleucus I- Asia
Lysimachius- Asia Minor
Cassander- Macedonia
THE STRONGHORN- is seen to be Antiochus IV Epiphanes, he took the Seleucid kingdom in 175BC, and stopped all temple sacrifices and set up a statue of Jupiter in the holy temple of Jerusalem. The temples was finally cleansed (v. 14)- by Judas Maccabaeus who led the Jews to victory over the Syrians. According to St. Jerome- there is a partial fulfillment of these events in the persecution of Antiochus, this passage also points to the Antichrist, THE KING WHO SHALL ARISE ( see v. 23). I read from 2 Thessalonians 2:3-12- taking about the Antichrist, the son of perdition, the man of sin- Christ and His eternal Kingdom, and Christ is the RESTRAINER.
Daniel 9 STUDY and NOTES
GABRIEL AND THE SEVENTY WEEKS
Epistle of Barnabas Chapter 16- link: https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/epistle-of-barnabas-12497- see chapter 16. Observes that this passage was fulfilled in AD 70, Barnabas points out the true Temple, the Body of Christ, talking about the spiritual temple the one in which God dwells in. SEVENTY WEEKS: this interpreted to mean seventy weeks of years= 490 years (70x7). This prophecy ties into the Prophet Jeremiah's prophecies- (See also Daniel 9:2)

Daniel's vision was for both the rebuilding of the temple and the coming of the Messiah, according to St. Hippolytus- Jews returned after 70 years of captivity and resume sacrifices. The prophet ( this was divided into two parts)- Jeremiah is better understood- The Messiah, the Prince - seven weeks meaning 49 years. In the twenty first year of Nebuchadnezzar's reign- Daniel saw these things in Babylon- add 49 to the 21 makes 70- exactly when the Prophet Jeremiah spoke the words in Jeremiah 25:11- Jesus the Messiah would be crucified in 30AD- about 490 years (70 weeks) after Artaxerxes commissioned Ezra to rebuild Jerusalem in 458 BC- (2 Ezra 7:7-8).
2 Ezra 7:7-8: "Some of the children of Israel, the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the Neithinim came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes. They came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was the seventh year of the king."
