Morning Reads - “Christian Disputes” - “You Are gods?” - “Deification” See Note

Good morning. Great is His faithfulness.

NOTE: Tomorrow Morning Readings- Acts 26:1; & vv. 12-20- John 9:1-38

Greek word of the day- καταχράομαι katachráomai, kat-akh-rah'-om-ahee; from G2596 and G5530; to overuse, i.e. misuse:—abuse.

What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ[fn] without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel.

Acts 15:5-12

See vv.7-12: Peter is giving a testimony after MUCH DISPUTE (see v. 7- Acts 15), and here St. Peter is stressing how God has worked among the Gentiles, and we see how Paul and Barnabas testify the same thing. All three of these Apostles testify that God has already shown them the answer and He (Christ) must not be opposed.

"God chooses us we don't choose Him, He evaluates the hearts of everyone, because God has made no distinction between the Gentiles and Jews, but instead our hearts are purified through faith in Christ Jesus."

The Orthodox Church is sometimes known as "THE CHURCH OF COUNCILS", for it stands to this day in the practice of solving disputes and coming to a consensus through councils. See v. 6- This Council progresses through the stages of assembly.

The Council of Jerusalem- the Apostolic Council about 49AD- very important Council- it's broken up here in Acts 15- Testimony (Acts 15:7-12; Decision (Acts 13-21); and Adoption (Acts 15:22-29)

Acts 15:35-41- Paul and Barnabas Seperate

THE ONE WHO HAD DEPARTED- See Acts 13:13- this was explained in my teaching video- the dispute we see shows that Christians can have disagreements concerning details and it is sometimes expected that Christians can separate physically without ever falling out of communion with one another. The dispute was resolved, John Mark later rejoined Paul - (see, 1 Timothy 4:11).

John 10:17-38-

In vv. 34-36: We see- "YOU ARE GODS": Here Jesus is explaining the process of "DEIFICATION."

See my video because I explain what Deification is and what Deification is not-

DEIFICATION- is the ancient theological word used to describe the process by which a Christian becomes more like God. St. Peter writes "As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness... you may be partakes of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:3-4).

"Being joined to Christ means that it is again possible to experience deification, the fulfillment of our human destiny. That is, through union with Christ we become by GRACE what God is by NATURE- we "become children of God- (John 1:12) - (Article of Deification from the Orthodox Study Bible).

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
