Greek word of the day- ἡγέομαι hēgéomai, hayg-eh'-om-ahee; middle voice of a (presumed) strengthened form of G71; to lead, i.e. command (with official authority); figuratively, to deem, i.e. consider:—account, (be) chief, count, esteem, governor, judge, have the rule over, suppose, think.
Philippians 2:3
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
Acts 6:8-15 "Evangelism by the Deacons"
Acts 6:15:
And all who sat in the council, looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as the face of an angel.
All those who become one with Christ receive this divine radiance that is revealed in STEPHEN's FACE. We see a preview of the glory of all believers will share in the age that is to come (2 Corinthians 3:18, see also Exodus 34:29-35).
Acts 7:1-5- "Stephen's Defense"
Stephen does not answer the HIGH PRIEST directly, instead Stephen uses the charges as the context of his preaching. The same as with Peter's sermon on Pentecost (Acts 2:14-40), Stephen is preaching Christ based on OT, showing how the Jews consistently missed the purpose of God's dealings with them because of their hardness of heart (see v. 51).
Acts 7:46-60- "Stephen's Martyrdom"
Acts 7:59-60
59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.
In imitation of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Luke 23:34), Stephen is offering his soul to God and prays for the forgiveness of his enemies.
Luke 23:34- [a]Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
And they divided His garments and cast lots.
John 4:46-54- "A Nobleman's Son is Healed"
It is obvious that the nobleman's concern is with his son, but his faith in Christ is weak. He lacks understanding of Christ being Lord over illness even from a distance, and he does not understand that Jesus has the power to heal even if the child were to die. The Nobleman inquires about the timing being at the SEVENTH HOUR (v. 52; the number 7 indicates completeness, fullness a number for the power of God), the nobleman still wasn't completely trusting of the Lord's authority. And was only after all was confirmed HE AND HIS WHOLE HOUSEHOLD BELIEVE (v. 53). Healing the child from a distance, Jesus heals both the child and soul of the nobleman.
Galatians 5:14
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
