Acts 20:9
And in a window sat a certain young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep. He was overcome by sleep; and as Paul continued speaking, he fell down from the third story and was taken up dead.
First Reading is from Isaiah 28:14-22
Isaiah 28:16: "therefore, thus says the Lord: "Behold, I lay for the foundations of Zion a costly stone, a chosen and precious cornerstone for its foundations, and whoever believes in Him will not be out to shame."
A cornerstone unites two walls, just like Christ unites Jews and Gentiles believes this verse is speaking to Christ as the cornerstone. (see also 1 Peter 2:6)
1 Peter 2:6: Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture,
“Behold, I lay in ZionA chief cornerstone, elect, precious,And he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.”
Isaiah 28:21: For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim,
He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon—
That He may do His work, His awesome work,
And bring to pass His act, His [a]unusual act.
This verse is making reference to the battle of Joshua against the Gibeonites, God destroyed the enemy with large hailstones - (See Joshua 10).
Second Reading is from Genesis 10:32-11:9
Genesis 11:6: nd the Lord said, “Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Mankind was United as ONE RACE AND ONE LANGUAGE. According to the commentary of the Orthodox study Bible this unity existed without the Holy Trinity, for man's true unity is union and communion with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, the Church is the race of Christian's, a holy nation - (see 2 Peter 2:9), and glorifies God with ... one mouth - (see Romans 15:6).
Genesis 11:7: Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”
The use of the Pronoun US is referring to the Holy Trinity. The words came down and see (v. 5) is a firgure of speech, the Trinity is not ignorant of anything. God is condescending to the weaknesses that we might understand something about Him and His works.
See Genesis 1:26: Then God said, “Let US make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [a]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Here in Genesis the Prounouns US AND OUR used indicating the Holy Trinity, because John 1 points out the Word was with God in the beginning, and in John 3 Jesus chat with Nicodemus we must be born again by both WATER and the SPIRT.
Genesis 11:8: So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city.
The Lord divided this false unity for the sake of all mankind's salvation, that man might seek and find Him - (see also ACTS 17:26-28). They sought to make a name for themselves see v. 4, and they cared nothing for the name of the Lord God, by which all mankind is saved.
Third Reading is from Proverbs 13:19-14:6
