Luke 11 Study & Breakdown/ Message About Praying with Persistence!!! Storm on the Horizon!!!

LUKE 11

HOW TO PRAY- See also (Matthew 6:9-13)

Luke 11:1-13

11:1: TEACH US TO PRAY: expresses a universal longing to be in communion with God- see also my Notes on Matthew 6:9-13:

11:5-8: THIS PARABLE: is demonstrating the Lord's faithfulness to those who are in need and who pray with PERSISTENCE (v. 8): The early saints interpret MIDNIGHT as both the time of our death and the time of great temptation: THE FRIEND is Christ, who, as our only source of grace, provides everything we need:

11:9-13: IN GREEK: the verbs rendered ASK, SEEK, AND KNOCK are implying a continuing action and are better translated, :Keep Asking", "Keep Seeking" , & "Keep Knocking": God responds when we persistently ask for things that are good: BREAD, FISH, AND AN EGG are all images of life and symbolize the gift of THE HOLY SPIRIT- (See also- John 14:13-14; James 4:3):

JESUS AND THE DEVIL- See also (Matthew 12:22-24; Mark 3:22)

Luke 11:14-15

11:15: BEELZEBUB: †ΒεελζεβούλBeelzeboúl, beh-el-zeb-ool'; of Chaldee origin (by parody on H1176); dung-god; Beelzebul, a name of Satan:—Beelzebub. A pagan god, derided by the Jews as "the Lord of the Flies": Here it is a direct reference to Satan- (v. 18):

SPIRITUAL POWER, SPIRITUAL WAR- See also (Matthew 12:24-32, 43-45; Mark 3:23-30)

Luke 11:16-28

11:16: A SIGN: Is never given to those whose motive is merely to test the Lord our God (see- Luke 4:8-12)

11:20: THE FINGER OF GOD: THE HOLY SPIRIT (Matthew 12:28)

11:21-22: THE STRONG MAN: is Satan, who holds sway over the fallen human race, while STRONGER is Christ- (see also- 1 John 4:4)

11:23: IT IS THE WORK OF CHRIST TO GATHER: the children of God, yes those who scatter are in direct opposition to Him: those who work in opposition to Christ are much different than those who work in good faith toward His purpose but are not yet united to the Church (see- Luke 9:46-50)- "Only good deeds done for the sake of Christ brings fruit, and thus deeds done for any other purpose, even if they are good, are deeds that scatter abroad" - (SerSar): The Seraphim of Sarov

11:24-26: THE UNCLEAN SPIRIT: refers to the rebelliousness cast out of the Jews OT Prophets to prepare them to receive Christ when He came: Those who refuse to receive Him are left open to the wickedness of SEVEN OTHER SPIRITS OR DEMONS- (JohnChr): St. John Chrysostom

11:27-28: THESE VERSES ARE READ: on most feasts of the Virgin Mary: Yeshua (Jesus) corrects the WOMAN FROM THE CROWD, not by denouncing his mother, but by showing her faith: People are BLESSED in God's eyes if, like Mary, they HEAR THE WORD OF GOD AND KEEPT IT: The Greek word- 'menounge' -here rendered MORE THAN THAT, is translated "Yes indeed" IN (ROMANS 10:18): THIS WORD CORRECTS BY AMPLIFYING, NOT BY NEGATING!!!

SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION: A SIGN- See also (Matthew 12:38-42)

Luke 11:29-32

11:29-32: THE SIGN OF JONAH: is (1) the fact that the rebellious Ninevites were willing to repent at Jonah's preaching & (2): that Jonah coming out of the great fish prefigures Christ rising from the tomb (Matthew 12:40): Both in contrast as well as in comparison to the Ninevites' repentance, the Jews' failure to repent at something far GREATER- Christ's preaching and Resurrection-will result in their JUDGEMENT: QUEEN OF THE SOUTH: (See- 3Kg 10:1-10):

SPIRITUAL PERCEPTION: A LIGHT TO SEE BY

Luke 11:33-36

11:33: See my Matthew 5:13-16-Notes: 5:13-16:(Matthew): see video references (Lv 2:13, see also Numbers 18;19; 2 Chronicles 13:5): (Isaiah 60:1-3), The Lord is also true uncreated light: talking about divine law (Psalm 118:105; 1 John 1:5) see also (John 12:36, 1 Th 5:5), and (Philippians 2:15): see video...5:16:(Matthew) Christian virtues have both personal and public function, for our own good virtues can bring others to glorify the Father!!

11:34-36: See my Matthew 6:22-23- Notes: 6:22-23: The Mind: (Greek. nous) is a spiritual eye of the soul; it illuminates the inner person and governs the will!!! Keep our minds pure and wholesome is fundamental to the Christian way of life!!!

THE PRIDE OF THE PHARISEES

Luke 11:37-54

11:39-52: See my Matthew 23:13-24-Notes: WOE: A term indicating complete and devastating destruction- (Luke 6:24-26; see Isaiah 5:18-24; Amos 5:18-19; Revelation 12:12): 23:13: EXAMPLE OF LEADER: Can be so so influential, so leaders who do not truly love the Lord and His words can hinder others from truly receiving Him as well: Thus, leaders are held to a higher standard (James 3:1): 23:24: - James 3:1: My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment

THE PHARISEES: would attach strainers to the mouths of decanters to avoid accidentally consuming a ritually unclean substance:

11:51: ZECHARIAH: Some of the early saints teach this was the prophet at the time of Joash the king (2 Chronicles 24:20-22), while others teach and refer to the father of St. John the Baptist, who, according to tradition, was also murdered in the temple: 2 Chronicles 24:20-22: Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God: ‘Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD, so that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He also has forsaken you.’ ” 2Ch 24:21 So they conspired against him, and at the command of the king they stoned him with stones in the court of the house of the LORD. 2Ch 24:22 Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son; and as he died, he said, “The LORD look on it, and repay!”

11:47-54: This passage is read on days commemorating holy prophets!!!

Message about Praying with Persistence and Confidence:

-How do we handle the daily pressures and stressors of everyday life??? We must hold faith that the Lord is truly at hand, and that He is always present with us...Remember and yes sometimes it's easier said than done, but we must refuse to worry about being anxious for absolutely nothing...In all we do we are to remain in prayer and thanksgiving always to God, we are to meditate on the things that are good and virtuous, and lastly we must continue to imitate Yeshua (Jesus), His teachings and all those who follow Him in both spirit and in truth!!! Luke 11 just taught us to ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it will be opened to you...Persistent in confidence in our chats with the Lord keeps us on the right track!!!
