Matthew 19:23-26
With God All Things Are Possible
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?”
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
See vv. 19-22: The young rich man would not allow Jesus to save him from himself. He departed from Jesus very sorrowful because he had to may possessions he didn't want to part with.
Many interpretations have been suggested for the image of A CAMEL going through THE EYE OF A NEEDLE: the word was not camel, but "rope"; or the eye of a needle was a city gate through which a camel could barely squeeze through yet at first it unloaded all its baggage, symbolizing wealth. Even ancient literature like the Talmud uses the expression "for an elephant to go through the eye of a needle." Whatever this phrase refers to, is displaying the impossibility of salvation for those who are attached to riches. The disciples' response, "WHO THEN CAN BE SAVED?" It's by God's grace that was is IMPOSSIBLE to man is POSSIBLE with God's grace.
