DAY34: LOAVES AND FISH PART 3 (Mark 6:39-44)- “Different Ways to Offer Good Tidings…”

Good evening. Great is His faithfulness. Christ is Risen!!!

Mark 6:39-44

Then He commanded them to make them all sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in ranks, in hundreds and in fifties. 41 And when He had taken the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and the two fish He divided among them all. 42 So they all ate and were filled. 43 And they took up twelve baskets full of fragments and of the fish. 44 Now those who had eaten the loaves were [a]about five thousand men.

In regards to v. 39 let's take a look at Isaiah 40:6-9, and see also 1 Peter 1:24-25.

St. Origen, said, "I believe that He ordered the people to sit down upon the grass because of what is said in Isaiah: "All flesh is grass;" that is to humble the flesh, to make subject the arrogance of the flesh; so that each one may become a partaken of the loaves to which Jesus gave His blessing."

Isaiah 40:6-9

The voice said, “Cry out!”And [d]he said, “What shall I cry?”

“All flesh is grass,And all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.7 The grass withers, the flower fades,Because the breath of the Lord blows upon it;Surely the people are grass.8 The grass withers, the flower fades,But the word of our God stands forever.”

9 O Zion,You who bring good tidings,Get up into the high mountain;O Jerusalem,You who bring good tidings,Lift up your voice with strength,Lift it up, be not afraid;Say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!”

YOU WHO BRING GOOD TIDINGS is prophesying the preaching of Christ and His Apostles.

Some Christians reject tithing because they see it as part of the Law, and it's not applicable for today. We see in Genesis 14:18-20, Abraham offers tithings to Melchizedek, see also Malachi 3:6-12 talks about that good tithing brings God's blessing.

Other readings Ephesians 1:7-10- taking about the Administration of the Son, mystery and redemption.

Ephesians 3:20-21- talking about the Doxology of the Father.

The reflection ended with readings from 2 Corinthians 9:8- 2 Corinthians 9:6-15- speaks of St. Paul's landmark teachings on Christian Stewardship.

Matthew 6:25-33- Trusting God for basic needs- Here Jesus is giving us all a warning against anxiety, and is not attacking thoughtful planning. We should be completely dependent on God for our physical well being, and the others like food, drink, and clothing do not worry. Anxiety over earthly things is a demonstration of a lack of faith in God's care.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
