"DEMANDING A MIRACLE" - Matthew 15:39-16:12- Mark 8:10-26
A sign from heaven means an amazing display of God's power. The time of Messiah among the Jews was to be accompanied by spectacular signs and miracles, but the religious leaders and their hypocrisy did not recognize the signs that were already being performed because they had harden hearts, and ignored all the work's happening around them by Christ. Jesus refuses to give THIS ADULTEROUS GENERATION a sign because their motive was to test God, teaching us to never give a sign to those who have these evil motives. THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES is their DOCTRINE and also their HYPOCRISY- beware of this leaven it still exists to this day.
PETER's GREATEST CONFESSION- Matthew 16:13-20- Mark 8:27-30- Luke 9:18-21
WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM? This is the greatest question anyone of us could ever face, because it's a question that completely define Christianity. Peter's answer helps Christianity and our faith not been seen as another philosophical system or path for spirituality, because it names Jesus as the ONE AND ONLY SON OF THE LIVING GOD. CHRIST means "ANOINTED ONE"
Peter/Rock - the word "ROCK" is a play on the word in both Aramaic and Greek - (Petros/Petra). The name of Rock is not referring to Peter per se, yes he had faith like a "Rock", but Jesus is referring to Peter's "confession of faith" (St. John Chrysostom). The Rock is Christ Himself (1 Corinthians 10:4), and the Church is built ON THE FAITHFUL CONFESSION OF CHRIST.
