Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.
John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD: Jesus spoke these words in the context of the great lamps being lit at the conclusion of the Feast of Tabernacles (see my notes at JPCE Spiritual Talk John 7:2 - study or see orthodox study Bible): He (Christ) declares Himself to be the fulfillment and the divine object of all celebrations of light: In the Scriptures, God the Father Himself is light (John 1:4-9; 1 John 1:5), an attribute He bestows on His followers (Matthew 5:14; Philippians 2:15): Our Lord confirms His claim by performing the great sign of opening the eyes of a man born blind (JOHN 9:1-7; See especially JOHN 9:5):
John 1:5
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [a]comprehend it.
DARKNESS: indicates both spiritual ignorance and satanic opposition to the light: those who hate truth prefer ignorance for themselves and strive to keep others ignorant as well (John 3:19 see my notes and video on these studies at JPCE SPIRITUAL TALK- or see an Orthodox study Bible): THE WORD TRANSLATED COMPREHEND means both "understand" and "Overcome": The darkness can never overpower the light of Christ, nor can it understand the way of love!!!
Ephesians 5:8-10
Walk in Light
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the [a]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.
"We must judge what the world says is reasonable on the basis of what God says is true." (Sharing from the commentary of the Orthodox Study Bible it was interesting) ...
Prayer Focus from the devotional
Thank the Lord for giving you direction and rescuing you from darkness. Repent if you've been groping around in the dark trying to create your own life, your own masterpiece. Praise Him that His mercies are new everyday for the privilege of reflecting His Light.
