DAY 85: “DIVINE POTENTIAL” (Acts 9:26-27)

DAY 85: "DIVINE POTENTIAL" (Acts 9:26-27)

ACTS 9:26-27

26 And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

Divine Potential: Encouraging Unwavering Faith Jared led a Sunday morning devotional centered around the concept of "divine potential." Jared encouraged attendees not to give up on their fellow believers, citing the example of Barnabas who supported Paul. The message was closed with a prayer.

Ephesians 5:8-14

Walk in Light

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the [a]Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [b]expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are [c]exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:

“Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”

This is a great verse in helping to understand our divine potential once we are called and start our spiritual journey with Christ. We see in vv. 8-10, we are told that we are to judge what the world says is reasonable on the basis of what GOD says is true. Yes we are to separate ourselves from darkness, but we are also called to expose it see v. 11. First thing is first we are to come out of hiding so we can be exposed ourselves. We must first confess our sins and repent of them (see John 3:19-21). In Orthodoxy we do this before baptism, before the Eucharist, and also in a separate sacrament of repentance.

v. 14 says to awake from sin and stop yielding to sloth and sin and arise from our spiritual grave because at this point we are spiritually dead. Christ will pour upon you the divine truth as the sun gives light to men aroused from sleep.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord[a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
