DAY 14: DESPERATE THINGS (Matthew 9:20-22) “Be Desperate for God” Psalm 22(23) Reading & Breakdown

Matthew 9:20-22

And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. 21 For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” 22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, “Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.”And the woman was made well from that hour.

The woman with the hemorrhaging was desperate for God. Her faith made her desperate because she knew if she could only touch the hem of His garment she would be made well. The woman's faith is what we should all try and imitate, but what stands out is her desperation. She teaches us that staying desperate for God will ensure our redemption paving the way for our salvation, and it's through Christ we are fulfilled and satisfied. Matthew 4:4: But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” This verse teaches us the same thing we need to be desperate for Christ, desperate just like a person who is in starvation looking for the meal to sustain them. Christ sustains us and it's through our desperation for Him, He feeds us. Man needs bread of course, but most importantly man needs spiritual food. Spiritual food that comes only from Christ our God.

Read and broke down Psalm 22(23)-

Psalm 22(23)- teaches us how important is to draw closer to God. Reading this I can feel the desperation David has for the Lord.

Prayer Focus from the devotional

None of us want to suffer no matter how good our theology on suffering may be. Be honest with God and tell Him that you long relief from your desperate thing. Ask Him for healing, help, and strength to persevere. While you wait for deliverance - whether it comes on earth or in heaven - ask God to use the very thing you long to be delivered from for your ultimate good and for His glory. Please, Lord, don't let this difficult thing be wasted.

What is your desperate thing? I'm desperate for God. There are moments where I'm at complete peace with God. Today I'm a little inside my head so I'm desperately wanting that peace right now.

How has God already used your pain for your good? He using me now. I'm a veteran with combat PTSD, but the Lord doesn't allow me to use this as an excuse any longer. The Lord heals us in 3 ways, He heals us physically, emotionally and spiritually. Most important advice I give is this allow Him to heal you spiritually first and than the physical and emotional healing will come in time. I use to walk on a walking cane, and I noticed each day I got better the closer I drew near to the Lord. The same is said about my emotional healing that was in part to the Lord healing my spirit.

Read Psalm 23 and mediate on how God's goodness and mercy is following you even and especially on your worst days. See my video for this discussion.

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
