Day One
The Beginning- Readings are blended-(Mark 1:1, Luke 1:1-4; and John 1:1-18)
GOSPEL ("good news" or also "good tidings") and is not referring to the writings of Mark per se, but instead to the story of the life, death and Resurrection of JESUS CHRIST, along with the good news of our salvation. THE BEGINNING is pointing to the opening events of Christ's public ministry, in preparation by His forerunner, St. John the Baptist, and Christ's encounter with him.
Luke wasn't a disciple from the beginning, but he has great understanding of thde gospel because his sources were the Apostles themselves, who were the eyewitnesses of Christ. Luke complied and wrote the his Gospel to Theophlius, a prominent Gentile who had received Christian instruction (Acts 1:1 is another source).
According to St. Ambrose of Milan - Theophlius means "lover of God", and therefore writes, "if you love God, it was written for you."
In the beginning is recalling the creation in Genesis 1, but is speaking more clearly of the Creator (אֱלֹהִים ʼĕlôhîym, el-o-heem- Hebrew- Greek-θεός theós, theh'-os) Himself. Genesis speaks of the first creation and here in John he reveals the new creation in Christ.
WAS THE WORD (Greek, "logos"): The Word is the eternal Son of God, and WAS indicates existence without referencing a starting point and showing us the Word's eternal existence without beginning. Logos can also mean "WISDOM", "REASON" and "ACTION" and also "WORD" and all are attributes to the SON OF GOD. THE WORD WAS WITH GOD- is showing one God in Three distinct Person, The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - ONE GOD THE EXISTING ONE. THE WORD WAS GOD: The Don of God is co equal and co eternal with the Father.
The Genealogy from Abraham to Jesus - Matthew 1:1-17
Christ's ancestors are arranged in three groups of fourteen generations. Fourteen is the numerical equivalent of the constants in the name DAVID- underlining the fact JESUS' descent is indeed from David.
The Genealogy from Jesus to Adam Luke 3:23-38
The genealogy is following Joseph's ancestry, yes Jesus was only SUPPOSED to be the SON OF JOSEPH, humanly descended from Mary only. According to the Study Bible commentary this is explained in two complementary ways: 1- Joseph was a righteous man and would have married within his tribe- both Mary and Joseph would have shared common lineage; 2- Jesus was born to bring all mankind into adoption by the Father, and He affirms that a lineage of adoption is as binding and receives the same inheritance as lineage of blood (Galatians 4:4-7).
The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold - Luke 1:5-25
John Baptist was the prophet preparing the way for Christ, and so John the Baptist was kept hidden until Christ was conceived.
The Birth of Jesus Revealed to Mary - Luke 1:26-38
Mary's faithful response seen in v. 38 is that of the highest obedience to God. The Incarnation was not only the work of God, but it also involved the free Will response of mankind in the person of Mary (Our Blessed Mother of God- The Theotokos). Eve once disobeyed, where Mary now obeys, Eve closed herself to God, Mary opens up to His Will. "I am a tablet; let the Writer write whatever He desires on it." (The Blessed Theophylact).
"We were created to be in complete communion with God to have a relationship with our Creator, this was our purpose."
