REVELATION 20:
20:1: THE BOTTOMLESS PIT (ABYSS) is the great nether regions (Psalm 87:7): There the extreme disobedient and the ones a threat to true divine order are held their awaiting Final Judgement: The demons fear it all (Luke 8:31; Jude 6): it is reached through chasm, the key to which is in the hand of the angel; The great chain binds Satan (Mark 5:3):
20:2: Orthodox Church view and some early Fathers and writers believed in a literal thousand years binding of Satan and reign of Christ and the all the saints here on earth (vv.2-7): The Church, ended up rejected this teaching (Called Chiliasm) at the Second Ecumenical Council: Numbers have huge significance to our learning and are symbolic they mean something and are not metaphoric!!! "Thousand" is often used in Scripture to tell us of an extremely large periods of time, giving it a great quantity, completion, perfection, and thoroughness (Job 9:3; 2 Peter 3:8): Here we will see, a thousand (vv. 2-7) is interpreted as the Church Age, when Yeshua (Jesus) reigns on earth in to those who believe: It is seen as an era between the first and second comings of Christ, which is also called as well as interpreted as "The Last Times": Satan has been defeated by the work Yeshua (Jesus) did on the Cross dying for us all with His own free will!!!
20:3: Satan is tossed into the PIT, which will be shut and sealed for a thousand years-we can assume this is a long period of time is it not??? This time would allow the Church to be planted, to grow and to overcome, even in extreme times of persecution: The word "Millennium" is synonymous with a THOUSAND YEARS, also carries no connotations of peace or prosperity: What does the Bible and Scriptures tell us is more important than opinions and wants!!! Bible teaches us that Satan was bound at the completion of Christ's Saving work (Matthew 12:28-29; Luke 10:17-18; John 12:31-32; Col 2:15): furthermore Satan isn't totally inactive (Acts 5:3; 1 Corinthians 5:5; Ephesians 6:11): Satan cannot deceive the Nations, by keeping the Gospel from them, it seems the deception is coming from the Fallen ones who aren't bind in the abyss awaiting to be released and for Final Judgement!!! So if we are staying with Scripture and only Scripture, it seems when we get get closer to the millennium or Church Age, Satan will be released for a little while a short while (vv. 7, 8):
20:4-6: Those who have died for their witness to Yeshua (Jesus) are in heaven living and reigning with Him (5:9-10; Matthew 19:18; 2 Timothy 2:12) as royal priests (1:6; 5:9-10; Isaiah 61:6; 1 Peter 2:9-10): The First Resurrection (v. 6) is the heavenly life of souls who have died in Christ (fallen asleep in the faith) before His Second Coming: Those who have died not in Christ but belong to Hades awaiting the resurrection of the Body at His Second Coming/ all the righteous saints with Christ, the second death has no power (v. 6), these righteous spirits (Hebrews 12:23) are awaiting only the reuniting of soul and body after the Final Judgement, and than all things will be made new (21:1): Hell or Hades (Sheol), here the sinner's souls are separated from their bodies, and will give up its dead to Gehenna (vv. 13, 14), lake of fire burning with Sulphur (21:8), this is eternal damnation (Matthew 25:41): Sinners will be excluded from the peace of the age to come, and evil cannot hurt the victorious in Christ (2:11):
20:7-10: The Millennial Age or Period of Satan's binding and the saints' heavenly reign (vv. 1-6), and will be concluded by the release of Satan and the Final Battle of history (see, Revelation 16:12-16; 19:14-21): Gog and Magog (v. 8; see Ezekiel 38-39), these will be the nations hostile to the Lord's people, and gathered together for one final assault directed against the beloved city (v. 9), Jerusalem as the Church: Elijah called own fire out of the heavens on his persecutors ( 4kg 1:10-12), so shall the Lord will send consuming fire (Genesis 19:24; 3Kg 18:38; Ezekiel 38:22; 39:6): The devil will join the beast, and the false prophet in the lake of fire, that is the second death of eternal damnation, no longer a threat to the world, (Is the final a beast just a beast???)
20:11: Great White Throne Judgement (see, Daniel 7:9; see also 1 Enoch 18:8): The One who sits on the Throne here is the Lord our God the Father (4:2-9; 5:1, 7, 13; 6:16; &:10; ect): However, in the rest of the NT Christ is judge on the Throne (Matthew 25:31-46; John 5:22; Acts 10:42; 17:31; 2 Corinthians 5:10): John is showing us the unity: "the Throne of God and of the Lamb" (22:1)/ Earth and Heaven flee away (Matthew 24:35; 2 Peter 3:10-13) Great cosmic signs of the Great Day of the Lord and the Coming of a new heaven and earth (21:1)
20:12; Standing before the Lord at His Throne at the Final judgement, the dead are confronted with their works: The books of judgement (Daniel 7:10), all and their works and deeds will also be judged (Psalm 61:13; Jeremiah 17:6): see, also (Matthew 16:27; Romans 2;6; 2 Corinthians 5:10; 1 Peter 1:17): The Book of Life: contains everything about how lives and everything we have ever done!!! (Exodus 32:32; Isaiah 4:3; Daniel 12:1-2):
20:13-15: The sea, Death, and Hades-the powers that held men captive-show all the dead will be judged: Christ has the keys to death and Hades (1:18), and evil will be destroyed forever!!!
