Mark 8 & 9 Study & Breakdown/ Message About Prudence!!!

MARK 8

FEEDING THE FOUR THOUSAND- See also (Matthew 15:32-39)

Mark 8:1-10

8:1-10: Is the same as Matthew 15:32-39: 15:32-39: THIS SECOND FEEDING OF A MULTITUDE SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH THE FIRST (MATTHEW 14:22-33) They are two distinct miracles see also, (Matthew 16:8-10): The variance in number of the loaves is important: The first had five loaves, that was symbolizing the Law, the Seven here (v. 34): Seven symbolizes fullness, completeness, and spiritual perfection!!! Christ reveals Himself as fulfilling the Law, while He shows that it is He who grants spiritual perfection!!! These crowds have been with Christ for THREE DAYS, (v. 32), the number of days He would rest in the Tomb after His crucifixion on the Cross: Participation in His perfection can only come through being united to Christ's death, see also (Romans 6:3-5):

SHOW US A SIGN- See also (Matthew 16:1-4)

Mark 8:11-12

8:11: Is the same as my Notes on Matthew 16:1-3: 16:1-4: A SIGN FROM HEAVEN: Would be a spectacular display of power for Yeshua!!! His earthly time and ministry as the Messiah was expected to have many great signs, but the Pharisees and Jewish leaders were hypocrites and failed to recognize the signs that were already on display!!! Their hearts were harden and their eyes were shut they were blinded by their own hypocrisy!!!

THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES- See also (Matthew 16:5-12)

Mark 8:13-21

8:15: THE LEAVEN OF THE PHARISEES: Was and is their doctrine (Matthew 16:12) as well as their hypocrisy (Luke 12:1): In Scripture, leaven is used both positively (as in Matthew 13:33) and negatively, as it is here. Leaven regardless is a symbolization of force and power that has the ability to affect everything around it (1 Corinthians 5:6-8):

A BLIND MAN HEALED

Mark 8:22-26

8:22-26: THE PEOPLE OF BETHSAIDA: were unbelieving (Matthew 11:21) So, Yeshua (Jesus) leads the MAN OUT OF THE TOWN to heal him, Yeshua did this so people would not scoff at the miracle or the man which would bring upon even greater condemnation... The blind was also healed in stages (vv. 23-25) is showing us that he had only a small amount of faith, with Yeshua healing depended on one's faith (Mark 6:5-6); yet the man's little faith was just enough for him: It also increased with the touch of Christ, Christ's command not to return to THE TOWN (v. 26), Is symbolizing that we must not return to our sins once we have been forgiven for them!!!

PETER'S CONFESSION- See also (Matthew 16:13-20; Luke 9:18-21)

Mark 8:27-30

8:27-30: Same as my Matthew 16:13-20- Notes: 16:13-20: "WHY DO YOU SAY THAT I AM??? (v. 15): is the greatest question a person can ever face, it is a question that to this day defines Christianity: Peter's correct answer to this question prevents the Christian faith from being seen as just another philosophical system or path of spirituality, for this names Yeshua (Jesus) as the One and Only the True Son of the Living God!!! (Read 1 Corinthians 12:3): Note: Christ first calls out false opinions about Himself (vv. 13, 14): He is doing this to identify incorrect and false ideas about Him and His teachings!!!

JESUS' FIRST PROPHECY OF HIS PASSION- See also (Matthew 16:21-28; Luke 9:22-27)

Mark 8:31-38

8:31-33: Same as my Matthew 16:21-23- Notes: 16:21-23: AFTER PETER'S CONFESSION: Yeshua (Jesus) reveals the true nature of His Mission and Ministry of being the Messiah: The mystery of His Passion: It was expected that the Messiah would reign forever, so the idea of Christ having to die was confusing and overwhelming for Simon Peter to handle...and to this day reminds scandalous to the Jews even after His Resurrection, see (1 Corinthians 1:23), Peter is unwittingly speaks for Satan, as the Satan himself did not want Christ to fulfill His mission and save mankind through His own suffering at His own Free Will even in death to conquer death by death!!!

8:34-38: Same as my Matthew 16:24-26-Notes: 16:24: THE CROSS: It was an instrument of Roman punishment, it also symbolizes the suffering by Christians in imitation of Christ: We practice self-denial for the sake of the love of the Lord our God and for the Gospel: Accepting this suffering is not seen as an punishment, nor as the end either, but as a means to overcome this fallen world for the sake of the Kingdom and to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires, see (Galatians 5:24): 16:26: WHAT WILL A MAN GIVE IN EXCHANGE FOR HIS SOUL???: This question is showing us the complete foolishness of gaining worldly wealth or even power here on earth, for none of this can redeem a person's soul, nor benefit a person in the life to come:

MARK 9

THE TRANSFIRGURATION- See also (Matthew 17:1-8; Luke 9:28-36)- IS ELIJAH COMING??? See also (Matthew 17:9-13)

Mark 9:1-8 & Mark 9:9-13

9:1: THIS IS A REFERNCE: to those who would witness the Transfiguration (vv. 2-13), as well as to those in every generation who will experience the true presence of GOD'S KINGDOM!!!

9:2-13: ON THE TRANSFIGURATION: See Luke 9:31, and Notes on Matthew 17: LUKE 9:31: verse and notes: 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His [a]decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Luke 9:31-Notes: Christ's DECEASE (Greek. exodus, departure) refers to His death. Christ's death is intimately connected to glory of the Transfiguration, for Christ is glorified through His death (John 12:23)!!!

TRANSFIGURATION:

  1. God is light (1 John 1:5): The bright cloud, the Shinning of Yeshua (Jesus') face was like the sun, and the whiteness of His great garment!!!

  2. The Father bear witness from heaven concerning His Son Yeshua (Jesus):

  3. The Transfiguration not only proclaims Christ's divine sonship, but foreshadows His future when He as the Messiah will usher in His long awaited Kingdom!!!

  4. Moses represents the law and all those who have died: Elijah represents the prophets and he did not experience death-all those who are alive in Christ: The presence of Moses and Elijah also manifests the communion of the saints- (Hebrews 12:1):

  5. Finally, the Holy Trinity (The Complete Package of God) is manifest here, so Christ Himself is Transfigured, see (Matthew 17:2), the Father is speaking from Heaven which is testifying to Yeshua' (Jesus') His Divine Sonship (17:5), the Spirit is present in the form of extremely bright light surrounding Christ, overshadowing the whole mountain, (17:5)

9:13: ELIJAH: Same as my Matthew 17:13-Notes: 13 Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Baptist.

O FAITHLESS GENERATION- See also (Matthew 17:14-21; Luke 9:37-42)

Mark 9:14-29

9:14-29: Same as my Matthew 17:14-21-Notes: 17:14-16: SICKNESS IN SCRIPTURE: Was often connected to demonic activity: By kneeling, the father is showing humility, but also lacking in faith: While the disciples themselves also are lacking in faith (v. 20), here Christ our Lord rebukes the man, the father for placing all the blame on the disciples when in actuality it was his greater lack of faith that prevented his sons healing: Yeshua, on the other hand defends His disciples in front of the multitudes but will later rebuke them in private (vv. 19-21), teaching us that we should always first correct people in private, see also (Matthew 18:15-17)...

17:19-21: ACCORDING TO EARLY SAINTS AND CHRUCH FATHERS: This rebuke is being directed at the nine disciples who could not cast out the demon, whereas "The pillars" of FAITH-Peter, James, John (Galatians 2:9)- were not included in this rebuke, as they had been on the mountain with Christ, (v. 1): THIS KIND (v. 21): Is referring to the powers of darkness, not necessarily all those who can cause a particular illness: Casting out demons requires "FAITH" (v. 20), "PRAYER", AND "FASTING" (v. 21), for there can be no healing and no victory in spiritual warfare without all three of these!!! THE DIDACHE: Teaches us both the person in need of healing and the person performing the healing must believe, pray, and fast, see (Matthew 21:21)- Faith that can move a mountain!!!

JESUS' SECOND PROPHECY OF HIS PASSION- See also (Matthew 17:22-23; Luke 9:43-45)

Mark 9:30-32

9:30-32: JESUS PREDICTS: His Death and Resurrection a second time (See Mark 8:31) to show He is going to His Passion freely, and not being taken against His Will!!!

THE WAY OF DISCIPLESHIP- See also (Matthew 18:1-35; Luke 9:46-50)

Mark 9:33-50

9:33-37: Same as my Matthew 18:1-4-Notes: 18:1-5: THIS QUESTION IS POINTING TO A SELFISH INTEREST IN WORLDLY POWER: Pointing to a LITTLE CHILD as an example or a model of what true DISCIPLESHIP really is: Yeshua is empathizing the virtues that are required to enter the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN: Humility, dependence, lowliness, simplicity, obedience, and a willingness to love and to be loved!!! (John 6:9)

9:38-40: See Luke 9:46-50:

9:42: LITTLE ONES: Includes all who have childlike humility and simplicity, all who are poor in spirit!!!

9:43-48: Same as my Matthew 18:8-Notes: 18:8-9: SEE MATTHEW 5:29: Referencing to mutilation is an illustration of making extreme actions to avoid sin and does not advocate one bit of a literal amputation!!! read (Luke 14:26; 1 Corinthians 5:5):

9:49: BEING SEASONED WITH FIRE: means being tested to see if one's faith and works are genuine (see, 1 Corinthians 3:11-15): IN SAYING EVERY SACRIFICE WILL BE SEASONED WITH SALTH, Jesus is quoting (Lv 2:13), in which salt stands for the remembrance of God's covenant with His people: See also my notes at Matthew 5:13-16!!!

MESSAGE ABOUT PRUDENCE

1 Corinthians 10:33

33 just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved

-The salvation of all is more important than the rights of an individual according to the Lord our God, a right is not inalienable if it alienates us from others!!!
