Mark 14 Study & Breakdown/ A Message About What Is True Faith!!!

MARK 14

THE CONSPIRACY TO KILL JESUS- See also (Matthew 26:1-5; Luke 22:1-2)

Mark 14:1-2

14:1-2: THE FEAST OF UNLEAVENED BREAD: begins with THE PASSOVER meal on the evening of 15 Nisan (on the Jewish calendar) that lasts seven days (Exodus 12:12-20): These two feasts commemorate Israel's liberation from slavery in Egypt: The word "PASSOVER" refers to the angel of death "PASSING OVER" -HEBREW homes when killing the firstborn of the Egyptians, for the Jews had put lamb's blood on their doorposts (Exodus 12:13): Unleavened bread is a reminder of the haste with which the Hebrews left Egypt (Exodus 12:39): This Passover was fulfilled in Christ, whose blood was shed to free humanity from the slavery of sin and death!!!

THE ANOINTING AT BETHANY- See also (Matthew 26:6-13; John 12:1-8)

Mark 14:3-9

14:3-9: Same as my Matthew 26:6-13-Notes: 26:6-13: YESHUA (JESUS) ACCEPTS THIS HONOR: from the woman in her newly found faith: He accepts it as a sign of His coming BURIAL (v. 12): Nerveless, according to early saints, the DISCIPLES were not wrong in principle: mercy shown to the POOR is more fitting than outward signs shown even to God, see (Matthew 25:40; James 1:27): They did not understand that once the gift had been given, it was greater mercy to accept it with love: "if anyone had asked Christ before the woman did this, he would not have approved it. But after she had done it, He looks only to the gift itself. For after the FRAGRANT OIL had been poured, what good was a rebuke??? Likewise, if you should see anyone providing a sacred vessel or ornament for the walls of the Church, do not spoil his zeal. But if beforehand he asks about it, command him to give instead to the poor" (JohnChr) : St. John Chrysostom: Caesarius of Arles

JUDAS BETRAYS JESUS- See also (Matthew 26:14-16; Luke 22:3-6)

Mark 14:10

14:10: JUDAS: By his own free will seeks to betray Jesus: Judas's motives have been debated, but many over the years, but it seems greed can be the only underlying motive to why this happen in betraying the Son of God!!! If we look to (John 12:4-6) where Judas was upset about the "Waste" of "myrrh" -see (1 Timothy 6:10)- he is a thief:

PREPARATIONS FOR THE PASSOVER- See (Matthew 26:17-19; Luke 22:7-13)

Mark 14:12-16

14:12: WHEN THEY KILLED THE PASSOVER LAMB: See- John 19:14: 14 Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King! : While some synoptic Gospels: date the crucifixion on the first day of PASSOVER, John however dates it on the PREPARATION DAY, the day before the Passover: The synoptic tradition, the Last Supper is the Passover meal, John's Gospel, Yeshua (Jesus), as the Lamb of God (John 1:29), dies at the exact time the Passover lambs are being slain in the temple: It is impossible to determine which is historically accurate, both traditions are theologically accurate- the Mystical Supper is the fulfillment of the Passover meal ( the synoptic tradition) and Christ's death is the fulfillment of the Passover lambs being slain (John's tradition):

14:13: THE TWO DISCIPLES: are Peter and John- see (Luke 22:8): 8 And He sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat.”

THE LAST SUPPER: THE EUCHARIST INSTITUTED- See also (Matthew 26:20-35; Luke 22:14-38; John 13:1-38)

Mark 14:17-31

14:20: CHRIST EMPHASIZES: both that His betrayer is ONE OF THE TWELVE and that he is the one WHO DIPS WITH ME IN THE DISH not so much to identify the person as to emphasize the level of betrayal, especially from one of his closest friends- (Psalm 54:13-15): 13 But it was you, a man my equal, My companion and my acquaintance. 14 We took sweet counsel together, And walked to the house of God in the throng.

15 Let death seize them; Let them go down alive into [e]hell, For wickedness is in their dwellings and among them

14:21: DIVINE FOREKNOWLEDGE: of the betrayal but does not take away Judas' free will, For God all things are present in reality- He foresees all human actions, but does not cause them or even try to stop them it's all about choice- Free Will!!!

14:26: THIS HYMN: is a psalm from a group of psalms which are traditionally sung after the Passover meal (Psalm 114-117):

GETHSEMANE- See also (Matthew 26:36-46; Luke 22:39-46; John 18:1)

Mark 14:32-42

14:32: GETHSEMANE: meaning "OIL PRESS", is an orchard of olive trees at the foot of the Mount of Olives- see- (John 18:2): And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples. : CHRIST INTENTIONALLY came to THE PLACE known to His betrayer JUDAS, one of HIS DISCIPLES is showing He was going to His Passion willingly and voluntarily: So Yeshua (Jesus) went to find Judas rather Judas being the one finding Christ!!!

14:36: ABBA: in Aramaic is also similar to "FATHER", the same as "PAPA"- showing us the intimacy Christ had with God the Father!!!

JESUS IS ARRESTED- See also (Matthew 26:47-56; Luke 47-53; John 18:2-12)

Mark 14:43-52

14:43-45: ONE OF THE TWELVE: See v. 20 notes: THE FACT THAT A KISS is needed to signal the mob speaks volume of the mob itself: The Jewish leaders and even most common people would have recognized Him: this is showing the soldier were mercenaries , dispatched by THE CHIEF PRIESTS AND THE SCRIBES AND THE ELDERS, a group according to John's Gospel included the Romans- (John 18:3):

14:47: Same as my Matthew 26:52-54- Notes: 26:52-54: JESUS REBUKES PETER (identified in John 18:10): for using THE SWORD, for he still does not understand that Christ is going willingly to His death, so that salvation for mankind be FULFILLED: A legion is 6,000 soldiers, so TWELVE LEGIONS EQUALS 72,000 ANGELS: That this death was foretold in THE SCRIPTURES served to strengthen the disciples at their hour of greatest test!!!

14:51-52: TO FLEE NAKED: is a great shame and humiliation (Ezekiel 16:39; Amos 2:16): Some teach this YOUNG MAN was James, the brother of the Lord (Galatians 1:19), while others say that it was the apostle John, the youngest of the twelve: While most others believe it was Mark, the author of this Gospel, as it was common literary device for a writer not to give his own name (see, Luke 24:13; John 21:24): The others do not report this incident!!!

JESUS BEFORE THE SANHEDRIN- See also (Matthew 26:57-68; Luke 22:54, 63-71; John 18:13-24)

Mark 14:53-65

14:62: I AM: (Greek. ego eimi): Is the Divine Name of God "Yahweh" or making a revelation to God Himself: The use of this Name by a mere man was considered blasphemy and was punishable by death (Lv 24:16; see also John 8:58): However, Yeshua (Jesus) being fully God, His use of this Name cannot be blasphemy, but is revealing His unity with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Mark has the only account where Christ's answer so direct: TO SIT AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE POWER means to share authority with the Father: This statement in (v. 64) is a claim to equality with God the Father!!!

PETER'S DENIALS- See also (Matthew 26:58, 69-75; Luke 22:54-62; John 18:15-18, 25-27)

Mark 14:66-72

14:66-72: See Luke 22: 56, 61: Luke 22:56: 26:52- And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him. Luke 22:61: 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster[a]crows, you will deny Me three times.
