Mark 10 & 11 Study & Breakdown/ Message About Purity!!!

MARK 10

WHAT IS MARRIAGE??? See also (Matthew 19:1-12)

Mark 10:1-12

10:1-12: Same as my Matthew 5:31-32 & Matthew 19:3-9- Notes: MATTHEW 5:31-32:“Furthermore it has been said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’32 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except[a]sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery. 19:1-9: THE BASIS OF THE PHARISEES' TEST IS FOUND IN: (Deuteronomy 24:1-4): The Lord's condescension, or allowance for human weakness, does not override the original principle for marriage found in- (Genesis 1; & 2): The authority given to Christ He adds His own clear prohibition against DIVORCE, see vv. 6, and 9, see also (Matthew 5:31-32; Malachi 2:15-16): 19:9: THE PERMISSIBLE REASONS FOR DIVORCE: Were expanded during the times of the ancient Church to include threat to a spouse's or child's life and desertion, in also in all cases acknowledging the spiritual tragedy of such a situation, see also (Matthew 5:31-32):

CHILDREN RECEIVE THE KINGDOM- See also (Matthew 19:13-15; Luke 18:15-17)

Mark 10:13-16

10:13-16: The same as my Matthew 19:13-15-Notes: 19:13-15: THE DISCIPLES REBUKED THE MOTHERS FOR BRINGING LITTLE CHILDREN: To Christ because of their manner was "unruly" and because they thought the children "diminished His dignity as Teacher and Master" (Theoph): Here Christ is rejecting this thinking and setting the children as the example of how to enter the Kingdom of Heaven (God): see (Luke 18:15-17): (Theoph-Theophylact of Bulgaria-)

THE DANGER OF RICHES- See also (Matthew 19:16-30; Luke 18:18-30)

Mark 10:17-31

10:17-27: Same as my Matthew 19:16-26-Notes: 19:16-17: THIS MAN DOES NOT COME TO TEST YESHUA (JESUS): But instead to seek advice from one he considers no more than A GOOD TEACHER: CHRIST RESPONSE: (v. 17) does not deny He is God, but designed to lead the rich man to this knowledge!!!

19:20: FORMAL OBSERVANCE OF COMMANDMENTS: Does not make us righteous before God: The man had an earnest desire for eternal life, but seemed to lack something and presses Yeshua (Jesus) for the answer he was seeking!!!

19:21: TO BE PERFECT: Meaning to be perfect in FAITH is one must be willingly to sacrifice all and deny self will, pickup the cross and follow Christ: Of course nothing is gained unless sacrifice is freely given!!!

19:23-26: VARIOUS INTERPRETATIONS: Have been suggested for the impossible image of a CAMEL going through an EYE OF A NEEDLE: Further translations show the word was not CAMEL, BUT "ROPE"; or that the eye of a needle was a city gate through which the camel might barely squeeze if it were first unloaded of all it's baggage, symbolizing wealth: Even the Talmud uses the expression "for an elephant to go through an eye of a needle..." so salvation is nearly impossible for those attached to riches, the disciples response, "who then can be saved???" answer by the Grace of God even the impossible to man can come to pass!!! meaning possible for the Lord!!!

10:28-31: Same as my Matthew 19:29-Notes: 19:29-30: CHRIST IS NOT COMMANDING: Believers to divorce spouses and abandon children: See (1 Corinthians 7:12-16):

JESUS' THIRD PROPHECY OF HIS PASSION- See also (Matthew 20:17-19; Luke 18:31-34)

Mark 10:32-34

10:32-34: CHRIST'S REPEATED PREDICTIONS: Of His Passion was intended to encourage and strengthen the faith of the disciples for all the terrifying events they would all soon face: This is also confirming How our Lord was going to His Death of His Own Free Will and By His Own Choice and not against His Will!!!

TRUE GREATNESS IN SERVING- See also (Matthew 20:20-28)

Mark 10:35-45

10:35-40: Same as my Matthew 20:20-23-Notes: 20:20-23: THIS QUEST FOR TEMPORAL POWER: And glory is unfitting for a disciple: also shows earthly misunderstanding of the Kingdom of God: Matthew writes that THE MOTHER OF ZEBEDEE'S SONS requested this honor, but John's and James' own involvement is revealed by the plural YOU in v. 22, see also Mark 10:35: CHRIST CALLS HIS CRUCIFIXION A CUP AND HIS DEATH A BAPTISM: The cross is a cup because He drank it willingly His own free will (Hebrews 12:2): His death is baptism, for He completely immersed in it, yet it cleansed the world (Romans 6:3-6): Christ's prophecy of John and James participating in the same cup and baptism is showing the life of persecution and martyrdom the would lead after Pentecost!!! Christ is declaring that the places of honor in the Kingdom are not His to GIVE does not mean He lacks authority: Rather means He does not give by random choice, but leaves it to His Father's will to place people where He has already prepared for them!!!

10:45: THE PHRASE "MANY": Is an Aramaic expression meaning "FOR ALL"!!!

THE BLIND MAN BELIEVES- See also (Luke 18:35-43)

Mark 10:46-52

10:46-52: THE RESTORATION OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, (vv. 51, 52): was a sign that was expected to be performed by the Messiah- (see- Isaiah 29:18; Isaiah 35:4-5), a power God had reserved for Himself (see, and compare John 9:32)- SON OF DAVID, (vv. 47, 48) was a messianic title, showing that BARTIMAEUS, (v.46) had faith that Yeshua (Jesus) was indeed the Christ!!! Early Saints give a spiritual interpretation to this miracle: JERICHO was a low-lying city associated with sin (Luke 10:30; 19:1); here it is representing fallen humanity: Christ passing through Jericho is an image of His Incarnation: The Lord restoring sight to Bartimaeus is paralleling His restoring of humanity to glory: Once we are made whole in Christ, human nature now can follow Christ ON THE ROAD TO THE KINGDOM (v. 52), symbolizing by our Lord awesome entrance into Jerusalem- (Mark 11:1-11)

MARK 11

THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY- See also (Matthew 21:1-9; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19)

Mark 11:1-11

11:1-11: Same as my Matthew 21:1-11-Notes: 21:1-11: CHRIST'S TRIUMPHAL ENTRY: His entry into Jerusalem is celebrated by the Church on Palm Sunday: At the time of Christ it seemed Jewish Nationalism had led to the expectation of a Political Messiah one of great military power, that would deliver them from Roman Occupation so they could reestablish David's Kingdom: Yeshua came in humility and mercy to show He did not come to establish and earthly Kingdom: He choose the DONKEY TO RIDE ON as a sign of Him coming in humility and in Peace (The Prince of Peace), see also (Zechariah 9:9): "This entrance into the Holy City declares establishment of the Kingdom of God. It is also a promise of Christ's final entrance into the heavenly Jerusalem with all the believers and of His accepting the New Jerusalem as His pure Bride (Revelation 21:2):"

THE BARREN FIG TREE- See also (Matthew 21:18-19)

Mark 11:12-14

11:12-14: IT WAS NOT THE SEASON FOR FIGS: is meaning that this FIG TREE had sprouted an early full foliage, that was indicating a first crop, but without bearing any fruit: Yeshua (Jesus) did not find one fig on the tree so he condemns it: In Scripture, a fig tree is a often a symbol of Israel- (Hosea 9:10): Her fruitfulness has ceased, so the Kingdom will be taken from her and given to another people, who are called to bear spiritual fruit- (see- Matthew 21:43; Galatians 5:22-23; see Matthew 21:19)

THE TEMPLE CLEANSED- See also (Matthew 21:12-17; Luke 19:45-48)

Mark 11:15-19

11:15-19: The same as my Matthew 21:12-13-Notes: 21:12-13: THOSE WHO BOUGHT AND SOLD: Were trading in live animals to be used for sacrifices: THE MONEY CHANGERS: Traded Roman coins for Jewish coins since Roman coins, which had the symbol of Caesar, was considered defiling in the temple: (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19)- teaches us that each person is considered a temple of God, it is also a sign that our hearts and minds must be cleansed of earthly matters!!!

THE FIG TREE WITHERED- See also (Matthew 21:20-22)

Mark 11:20-26

11:20-21: THE CURSING AND WITHERING OF THE FIG TREE: Is seen as a prophetic act that is signifying the judgement of Israel: The Disciples need to learn that the old covenant with Israel is becoming obsolete and will vanish away (Hebrews 8:13): They will establish His Church, to be filled with Gentiles and Jews and a need of assurance that they are following His Will: The fig tree will be an indelible image in their minds!!!

11:23-25: Same as my Matthew 21:21-Notes: 21:21-22: WHILE IT IS NOT RECORDED THAT AN APOSTLE LITERALLY MOVED A MOUNTAIN: The early saints taught that indeed the apostles had this authority and especially if the time I had ever arisen for them to display it:

11:26: Same as Matthew 6:14-15-Notes: 6:14-15: Yeshua is teaching us that mutual forgiveness between people as a precondition of the Lord's forgiveness!!! Those who do not forgive will not be forgiven- period!!! This is a repeated formula and teaching of the unforgiven servant (Matthew 18:21-35), which has the same teaching, so not forgiving others is willfully fleeing from the Forgiveness of the Lord ourselves!!!

11:27-33: Luke 7:29-30- And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors [a]justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John. 30 But the Pharisees and [b]lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him. Same as my Matthew 21:23-27-Notes: 21:23-27: SINCE CHRIST IS NOT A LEVITICAL PRIEST: The chief priests and the elders challenge His authority to cleanse the temple: Christ is careful not to reveal Himself to scoffers, He deflects them with a different question about JOHN: Both the elders' question Christ's question to require the same answer, and thus would lead a person to confess that Jesus has come from heaven: not answering them, here Jesus is teaching us not to answer people who come to ask of holy things with a malicious intent!!!

MESSAGE ABOUT PURITY!!!

PROVERBS 5:15-19

15 Drink water from your own cistern,

And running water from your own well.

16 Should your fountains be dispersed abroad,

[a]Streams of water in the streets?

17 Let them be only your own,

And not for strangers with you.

18 Let your fountain be blessed,

And rejoice with the wife of your youth.

19 As a loving deer and a graceful doe,

Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;

And always be [b]enraptured with her love.

-Marriage is sacred, here called WATERS which are pure, and it was ordained by Wisdom (v. 15; see also Genesis 2:23-24): But people who commit adultery SPILLS these waters and damages the marriage bond (v. 16): Faithfulness in marriage is called the WIDE PLACES, because it is filled with blessings from Wisdom (vv. 16-18): It is from within that both the husband and the wife REJOICE TOGETHER, (v. 18), and the wife's love and companionship make her husband GREAT (v. 19)
