Introduction to Mark- Study & Breakdown of Mark 1/ Message about Power!!!

INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF MARK

AUTHOR: The Apostle Mark, he is also known as John Mark and the early ancient Church widely attest that he (Mark)

is indeed the true author of this Book. He traveled first with Paul and Barnabas and later he help to aid Peter (1 Peter 5:13): According to traditions, Mark used Peter's teachings as his primary source for his own gospel, and also adding his own personal experiences as well as other Church traditions...

DATE: The actual date is uncertain, due to connections with Rome and lack of clear reference to the destruction of Jerusalem (Mark 13:2), the Gospel of Mark may be dated shortly before the fall of Jerusalem right before AD 70- many believer this is when the first four Gospels were most likely written!!!

MAJOR THEME: Jesus Christ as Servant and Sacrifice:

(1): THE SUFFERING MESSIAH:

(2): THE MESSIANIC SECRET:

(3): DISCIPLESHIP:

BACKGROUND: Many early saints and Church leaders taught Mark's writings were for the Christian communities of Rome, which at that time were dealing with heavy persecution by Nero beginning in 64 AD- or could have been caught up in the Jewish War that led to the temple destruction in AD 70: Mark is telling the story of Yeshua (Jesus) so his readers may see and understand their own faults and sufferings, so they can look to the glorious Second Coming of our Lord and Savior!!! Mark like many apostles wrote and spoke a lot about enduring to the end in our Faith in Christ Jesus!!!

MESSAGE ABOUT POWER

1 Corinthians 4:18-20

18 Now some are [a]puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. 19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. 20 For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

-Paul visited Corinth to face those who who prejudged him to see if any power truly lies behind the word: Our Citizenship in the Kingdom of God which consists in all true believers and followers of Yeshua, does not and will not consist to something as in mere talk, but instead a manifestation of spirit in the growing life of grace in Christ Jesus!!! Our power is in our growth and we must lead by example action not just piety talk and phrases!!!
