Hebrews 4 Study (Part Two vv. 11-16)Psalm 107 (108) Study/God's Rest Continued ...

ALL ROADS LEAD TO CHRIST
CHRIST IS IN OUR MIDST!!!

HEBREWS 4 STUDY (Part Two, v. 11; vv. 12-13; v. 14; v. 15; and v. 16)

WORK TO ENTER HIS REST

11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

OUR MERCIFUL HIGH PRIEST

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

NOTES HEBREWS 4 – (v. 11; vv.12-13; v. 14; v. 15; & v. 16)

4:11: Man must labor to enter the rest of God, for rest implies prior work …

4:12-13: THE WORD OF GOD and the SWORD here are LIVING AND POWERFUL … The phrase HIS SIGHT – (v. 13) tells us this reference is not to the written word, Holy Scripture, but to the Word of God Himself, our Lord Jesus Christ – (see, John 1:1-18) … Nothing can escape the discernment of Christ, THE WORD OF GOD …

4:14: PASSED THROUGH THE HEAVENS refers to the Ascension of Christ … It is seen in the context of the Son sitting “at the right hand of the Majesty on high” – (Hebrews 1:3) … Christ has accomplished His work on earth and has entered His Sabbath Rest …

4:15: Christ’s empathy with sinner’s rests on His being TEMPTED in every way WE ARE …

4:16: Christ, enthroned at the right hand of the Father, sits on a THRONE OF GRACE rather than of judgement, granting MERCY and GRACE TO HELP IN TIME OF NEED … The normal position for a priest is standing not sitting … There is significant power in our enthroned Priest, for He has accomplished and fulfilled the sacrificial offering …

PSALM 107 (108) STUDY

PSALM 107 (108) Is a prophecy concerning the ascension and enthronement of Christ at the Father’s right hand – (BE EXALTED ABOVE THE HEAVENS, O GOD, v. 6; I SHALL BE EXALTED, v. 8) … From this enthronement He is now singing to the Father during His Church – (vv. 2-4) …
