ALL ROADS LEAD TO CHRIST
CHRIST IS IN OUR MIDST
EXODUS 37 & 38 Study Guide & Breakdown
I have noticed a huge difference between my Orthodox Study Bible and the Protestant Bible when it comes to Exodus 37 & 38 … I have put these studies together for a reason, and I will read and do all work straight from my Orthodox Bible and I will do my best to explain the differences and maybe a why???
EXODUS 37 in my Bible talks about the Tabernacle of Testimony and its 21 verse long in my Bible …
EXODUS 38 in my Bible talks about the Making of the Ark, The Table Offering, The Lampstand, The Altar, & The Laver of Bronze …
NOTES for EXODUS 38 – (vv. 1, 5, 6, 11-12, & v. 13)
38:1 The ark was a type of the Mother of God – (Akathist) … Inside the ark would be placed the jar of manna, a type of Christ as THE BREAD OF LIFE … Also, within would be Aaron’s rod that budded, a type of Life-Giving Cross, and the Ten Commandments, which spoke of Christ as the Lawgiver … Christ was conceived in the Virgin’s womb to give life to the world …
38:5: The mercy seat was a type of the Cross and the shed blood of Christ by which He makes people righteous – (Romans 3:25) … Those cleansed by His precious blood are made righteous immediately … The unbelieving Jews, however, hoped to obtain righteousness by keeping the commandments of the Law, but this was an impossibility … They failed to see what the mercy seat was teaching them, namely, that Christ is the mercy seat for their sins and “the end of the law for righteousness” – (Romans 10:4) …
Romans 3:5: 25 whom God set forth as a [a]propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed
Romans 10:4: 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes
38:6: The Cherubim were icons or images of two angels … These were not idols, yet they were part of Israel’s worship … Similarly, icons used in the Church are not idols … These are venerated, and the honor paid to them passes to the ones they image …
38:11-12: Worship in Israel was liturgical … Liturgy means “the work of the people” … Israel’s worship included four orders: THE HIGH PRIEST, THE PRIESTS, THE LEVITES, AND ISRAEL IN GENERAL … Similarly, Church worship is liturgical and includes four orders: THE BISHOP – (HIGH PRIESTS), THE PRIESTS, THE DEACONS – (LEVITES), AND LAITY … These orders are essential to liturgical worship …
38:13: The Lampstand was a type of Christ as the Light of the world – (John 8:12) …
John 8:12: 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the light of life.”
