EXODUS 31 Study Guide & Breakdown

Artisans for Building the Tabernacle

31 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: 7 the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— 8 the table and its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, 9 the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base— 10 the [a]garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, 11 and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.”

The Sabbath Law

12 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 13 “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies[b] you. 14 You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who [c]profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”

18 And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.

NOTES EXODUS 31 Study Guide & Breakdown

31:3: THE DIVINE SPIRIT is the Holy Spirit – (BasilG; GrgTheo; CyrJer) …

31:15: The penalty for breaking the Sabbath was death … Yet the Jewish leaders did not rest on the Sabbath – (Matthew 27:62-66), but were running around and seeking to keep Christ in the tomb – (AthanG) …

Matthew 27:62-66: 62 On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63 saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ 64 Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come [a]by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So, the last deception will be worse than the first.”

65 Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.” 66 So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.

31:18: THE FINGER OF GOD is also the Holy Spirit – (Matthew 12:28; Luke 11:20) …

Matthew 12:28: 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

Luke 11:20: 20 But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

PSALM 89 (90) Study Guide & Breakdown

PSALM 89 (90) Is a morning prayer – (vv. 5, 6, 14) designed to keep one focused on the Lord rather than on this temporal life and its hopelessness – (vv. 5-11) … For He exists outside time, and is therefore our only refuge – (v. 3), and He is very patient, because a thousand years in His SIGHT ARE LIKE YESTERDAY, WHICH PASSED, AND LIKE A WATCH IN THE NIGHT – (v. 4; see also 2Peter 3:8) … He is very patient, because He does not will that anyone should perish – (2Peter 3:9) … Therefore, when we focus on the Lord every morning, we look for His return at the Second Coming – (v. 13), and for His mercy, joy, enlightenment, and prosperity throughout each day – (vv. 14-17) …

2Peter 3:8:

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

2Peter 3:9:

9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward [a]us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

v. 9 - These words are not just for the fake teachers, but for us all … We are granted more time primarily to grant us fuller REPENTANCE - (See also v. 15 here in 2Peter 3; and 2Corinthians 7:9-10) …
