Evening Reflection: (2 Timothy 3:1-17; Matthew 24)-Moral Decline in the Last Days” Christ 2nd Coming
Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.
Today I forgot The Chosen 40 days with Jesus Book 2 devotional today would have been day 37. We will start that back tomorrow, but for today I decided to cover the "Moral decline in the last days" here in 2 Timothy 3:1-17.
We have always beeen in the LAST DAYS since Christ walked the earth, the Church has seen this and other warnings as references to the days just before our Lord's Second Coming. We will see a great decay of morals - ( I will read from Matthew 24:3-14; and Matthew 24:28-37) will infiltrate the Church - (see v. 5; and Matthew 7:15-27; 1 Corinthians 5:1-5; 1 Timothy 4:1-11). No different different than the prominent men of Cain's city - (Genesis 4:16-24), these people willfully reject law and morals out of love of self and love of pleasure.
Matthew 7:15-27- You Will know them by their fruits.
1Corinthians 5:1-5- The Church must be pure
1 Timothy 4:1-11- False teachers and false rules
Genesis 4:16-24 - Cain's family
(v. 5) - can be easily summed up what good is it to call yourself a Christian when you lack the works and denying its power which in return leads to apostasy falling away from the faith.
(v. 7): A quote from St. Augustine "Seek God and your soul will live."
(v. 8)- St. John Chrysostom notes either the names of Jannes and Jambres were either handed down by Jewish tradition, our can have been given the names ny inspiration of the Holy Spirit. These Egyptians who opposed Moses in Exodus 7 the names aren't mentioned. Paul is also exhibiting what the Lord taught: Godliness elicits persecution- ( see also John 15:20).
Equipped for Every Good Work
Saint John Chrysostom, "This is why the exhortation of the Scripture is given: that the man of God may be rendered complete by it. Without this he cannot grow to maturity. You have the Scriptures, he says, in place of me. If you would learn anything, you may learn it from them."
(Other sources Mark 13; 2 Thessalonians 2; and 2 Peter 2 compare it with Romans 1:28-32- this helps to cover must of vv. 1-9 in todays lesson. Other sources Acts 8:9-20, James 2:26; Matthew 7:15; Matthew 24:4, 5, 24- this helps with v. 5- Matthew 28:16-20; 1 Corinthians 11:2; 2 Thessalonians 2:15; and 2 Thessalonians 3:6- I also took quotes for, ANCIENT CHRISTIAN COMMENTARY ON SCRIPTURE).
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
