DAY:4: WORDS
The Eternal Word
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [a]comprehend it.
1:1: IN THE BEGINNING: is recalling the creation found in Genesis, this is speaking more directly to the Creator Himself: Genesis, spoke of the first creation this Prologue of John (vv. 1-18) is revealing the new Creation in Christ- (see Ezekiel 1:10): WAS THE WORD: (Greek logos): The Word is the eternal Son of God: was is indicating existence without reference to a starting point and emphasizes the Word's eternal existence without beginning: Logos can also mean "wisdom", "reason", "action" as well as "word" , All are attributes of the Son of God: THE WORD WAS WITH GOD: With shows that the Word-The Son of God-is a distinct Person from Son of God-is co-equal and co-eternal with the Father; He Himself is God with the same divinity as the Father: Some teach and twist and mistranslate this phrase "the Word was God" in order to propagate their heresy that the Son of God is a created being, a creature not fully divine: such a translation is unsupportable, false, dishonest and extremely deceptive!!!
λόγος lógos, log'-os; from G3004; something said (including the thought); by implication, a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension, a computation; specially, (with the article in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):—account, cause, communication, × concerning, doctrine, fame, × have to do, intent, matter, mouth, preaching, question, reason, + reckon, remove, say(-ing), shew, × speaker, speech, talk, thing, + none of these things move me, tidings, treatise, utterance, word, work.
Ezekiel 1:10: 10 As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle.
1:3: THE WORD IS THE CO-CREATOR: with the Father as well as the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1; Psalm 32:6,9- Hebrews 1:2) which is not an instrument or even a servant used by the Father: Will, operation, and power are one in the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit: So the heavens and the earth are the works of the One who made them, while the Son was not made but is eternally begotten of the Father!!!
PSALM 32 (33):6, 9: PSALM 32 (33):6: By the Word of the Lord the heavens were established, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth,
PSALM 32 (33):9: For He spoke, and they were made; He commanded, and they were created …
Hebrews 1:2: 10 As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man; each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, each of the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and each of the four had the face of an eagle.
1:4: ONLY GOD HAS LIFE IN HIMSELF: The Word being God, is the source of life, together with the Father and the Holy Spirit: THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT OF MEN: John is now introducing mankind as a receiver of the Divine Light: By all of us participating in the life of the Son, believers themselves become children of the light (John 12:36; Ephesians 5:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:5): Moses saw the divine light in the burning bush (EXODUS 3:2); The whole nation saw it at the Red Sea (EXODUS 13:21); Isaiah saw it in his heavenly vision (Isaiah 6:1-5); and three apostles saw it at the Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-5)
John 12:36: 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
Ephesians 5:8: Walk in Light
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
1Thessalonians 5:5: 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
1:5: DARKNESS: indicates both spiritual ignorance and satanic opposition to the light: those who hate truth prefer ignorance for themselves and strive to keep others ignorant as well (John 3:19): THE WORD TRANSLATED COMPREHEND means both "understand" and "Overcome": The darkness can never overpower the light of Christ, nor can it understand the way of love!!!
John 3:19: And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
καταλαμβάνω katalambánō, kat-al-am-ban'-o; from G2596 and G2983; to take eagerly, i.e. seize, possess, etc. (literally or figuratively):—apprehend, attain, come upon, comprehend, find, obtain, perceive, (over-)take.
1. Describe your first “FOLLOW ME” moment with Jesus … My moment started back in 2021 when Heather finds out about the TV Series the Chosen … I didn’t know what to expect even though I was chrismated in the Orthodox faith back in 2019, all I know I was on the search for who the real Jesus was … During the first episode toward the end when Jesus was redeeming Mary Magdalen, and it was now He told Her who are mine something full of peace and love entered my heart – it was something that said inside my heart feed my lambs and tend to my sheep …
2. Which Words of Jesus do you cherish the most??? – Cherish both Matthew 4:4: 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” – I cherish this one because it’s true God is the final piece, we need to keep us sustained, we need both physical and spiritual fullness …
I also cherish John 21:15-16- This is when Jesus restores Peter, and this is what was on my heart when I was called by the Lord to teach His ways …
Jesus Restores Peter
15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of [a]Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I [b]love You.”
He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of [c]Jonah, do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I [d]love You.”
He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
3. How can you make your own words – (particularly on social media) more like Christ’s words??? I used to struggle with this a lot a long time ago when I had social media sites especially Facebook, I use to get mad over the small things … Now I have www.howiseeit.info – and there I teach Christ ways and I work really hard to maintain a level of purity that will only be pleasing to Him … Christ can help us all to get a handle on these struggles and passions that can cause us to sin which could eventually lead us to falling away …
PRAYER FOCUS:
Thank the Father for whatever words impacted your life most, such as your favorite Bible verse … And recommit to Him to read His Word and say His Words to others … (The Chosen 40 Days with Jesus) …
In Christ love Jared W. Campbell
