DAY 39: WELLSPRING - (John 4:5-14; vv. 16-18; & v. 26) “The Samaritan Woman” & “Living Water” …

DAY 39: Wellspring

Readings from John 4:5-14; vv. 16-18; & v. 26 ....

Samaria was a region north of Jerusalem and is located between Judea and Galilee... The OT does not mention Jacob's well ... (Genesis 33:19) "19 And he bought the parcel of [a]land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. It's clear that Jacob did indeed dwell in that area, and wells also were very significant because they very rare and had a great deal of value for life in th desert ... So wells and following waters symbolized life itself - (Psalm 35:9-10(36):9-10; and Psalm 45:4 (46):4; and Isaiah 55:1)

Psalm 35 (36):9-10

For with You is the fountain of life;In Your light we see light.

10 Oh, continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You,And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

Psalm 45 (46):4

There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,

The holy place of the [a]tabernacle of the Most High.

Isaiah 55:1

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,

Come to the waters;

And you who have no money,

Come, buy and eat.

Yes, come, buy wine and milk

Without money and without price.

To this day this well is maintained and take care as a shrine to this day, and pilgrims drink from it ... By this time Jesus was wearied from His journey, this is showing His complete humanity... THE SIXTH HOUR is noontime or 12pm ... The woman in the Scriptures is identified in the church tradition as St. Photini ... The Samaritans were a mixed race and was considered traditional enemies of the Jews, yes they even worshipped the same God as Israel and we're like the Jews were patiently waiting the coming of the messiah ... They only accepted the first five -( The Pentateuch), they even built their own temple on Mt. Gerizim, and was destroyed by the Jews in 128 BC ...

LIVING WATER - (vv. 10-14): meaning fresh water, flowing water, from a stream or spring and not from a pond or cistern... Christ uses this term living water to tells us the meaning of the grace of the Holy Spirit that leads to eternal life - (John 7:37-39) ... This gift remains in a person, and is also so abundant it overflows to others in our lives ...

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you;

25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,

And be gracious to you;

26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,

And give you peace.” ’
