Good evening. Great is His faithfulness.
Luke 6:46-49
Build on the Rock
46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was [a]founded on the rock.49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it[b]fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
It is said that hearing the gospel alone is not enough. We are to be doers of good deeds just not be hearers of spiritual words, we are to be true pursuers of faith. For salvation is not based on hearing alone, nor is it based off faith alone, but by doing THE THINGS spoken by Christ - ( let's see James 2:20-24)
James 2:20-24
20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is [a]dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made [b]perfect? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was [c]accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. 24 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
The faith of Abraham is living and active that's how our faith should be we need to have the faith of Abraham.
Three areas where we see the faith of Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3, Abraham is 75 years old, he receives a call to forsake all and follow God.
Genesis 15:6, Abraham is nearly 85 years old, and after he has proven his faith through years of renouncing his land, family, property, and privileges, God promises him that ultimately he will regain everything he has given up.
Genesis 22:1-19, Abraham is at least 110 years of age. He has been tested for years concerning God's promise of a son. Genesis 17 was the covenant sacrament of initiation (circumcision) this comes as Abraham's supreme test: the sacrifice of Isaac, his son of promise- (Genesis 15:6). James reveals that Genesis 15:6 is fulfilled in Genesis 22. This is important lesson for us and all of our understanding of true justification by faith. The Abraham is the standard for all of us who pick up our cross by first denying ourselves and following Christ for eternity.
The Prayer Focus from the Devotional
Ask God to show you where you've refused His authority and done your own thing. Ask for forgiveness and pray for strength to relinquish your will and replace it with His. And if you've never actually called Jesus "Lord", change that today- because it's never too late to bend the knee.
Moving Forward Questions from the Devotional
Is Jesus your Lord? Why or why not? Jesus is Lord it's that simple.
What does the word "SUBMISSION" conjure in your mind and heart? The definition of "SUBMISSION" the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person. It means what it means so submit to God today and start doing His Will. Renounce this fallen world and lay your treasures in heaven, Christ is that Rock that foundation we build on.
Read Exodus 34:6: And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,
Read Deuteronomy 32:4: He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.
Read Psalm 145:8:The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
How does the concept of submission change when you're reminded that the One you are submitting to is all of these things and more? Nothing changes for me because He has showed me over and over again that He is my Rock the foundation that keeps me from blowing over when the storm comes.
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
