Good evening... Great is His faithfulness...
MATTHEW 6:19-21
Lay Up Treasures in Heaven
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Attaching ourselves to treasures on earth, we cut ourselves off from heavenly treasures!!! Which will result in making us slaves to earthly things rather than living free in Christ: The heart of discipleship requires us to detach ourselves from the chains of earthly things, and attaching ourselves to the Lord, which is our True Treasure (v. 21):
Laying our treasures in heaven eventually leads our hearts in the right direction, that direction is then way of Jesus Christ our God and doing all in love and compassion just like Him. Seeking the ways of God keeps us both honest and accountable to God. We establish the fear of God which is the being of wisdom. Keep seeking the kingdom of God and keep building that foundation on the ROCK Who is Christ!!!
PRAYER FOCUS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL
Ask God to forgive you for sometimes loving money more than you love Him. Ask Him to refrain your eyes, to be thankful for what He provides in this world but also to be excited and hope-filled about your future home in heaven with Him. Cuz it's gonna be awesome.
MOVING FORWARD QUESTIONS FROM THE DEVOTIONAL PLEASE SEE VIDEO FOR DEVOTIONAL READING
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" - (Matthew 6:21). Where's your treasure and why? Be honest with yourself. My treasure is being laid in heaven and has been since December 15, 2019. Why I'm I seeking Him because He has redeemed me and I'm His.
Read 1 Timothy 6:10: "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." In your own words, explain Timothy's warning to rich people and poor people and everyone in between. Be careful for the love of money it leads to temptation and can destroy lives and relationships if used for evil. See my video for further discussion on this answer.
In what ways can you store up more treasures in heaven today? What is GOD putting on your heart to do or say or pray that will add to your eternal riches?
Numbers 6:24-26
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
26 The Lord [a]lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.” ’
